Collectibles - Sweeter As The Years Go By

by Daniel Wright

A person remarked in a very deep southern accent that a friend collected Coca Cola items after someone was inquiring about ideas for a birthday gift. Come to find out, the friend's sister also really liked Pepsi collectibles; therefore it was easy to shop for either product.

Soft drink collectibles have the advantage of being easy to find in a variety of price ranges. They also come in a wide array of types. These collectibles can even be found for less than a dollar (ex: bottle caps, cans and bottles). Of course, some soda collectibles are more expensive (ex: thousands of dollars for early model vending machines).

Collectors are extremely excited by old signs that are still in good condition, since many, especially those made of wood, only exhibit wear-and-tear caused by being outdoors. Often, these signs may be stored in an attic or barn, preserving their condition. These are real treasures, sought by many collectors.

Not all soft drink collectibles have been around for a long time. Limited edition mugs, cans, or teddy bears can gain in value very quickly. Obviously, akin to any other collectible, rare items may be forgeries and so consumers must take care when buying.

A replica may not be a bad deal. Many copies are authorized by companies and offered for sale on their own websites, allowing consumers to buy old and cherished designs at a more affordable price than the original item. At the same time, buyers should be aware that they are purchasing a copy and make sure that it is not a wrongfully represented as an original.

Many soft drink collectibles are priced very affordably. This allows anyone to start a basic collection. If you enjoy it, you can easily move up to more valuable and difficult to find objects. Many collectors specialize in areas that are singularly not as valuable. However, when grouped together become more profitable. For example, you might collect all the commemorative cans from a region of the country. Honestly, the most important value your collection should hold is what it means to you.

When selecting a soft drink collectible as a gift, try to find out what is on their personal wish list, enlisting a relative or close friend who knows their collection. Make certain you know whether you are buying an original or replica and pay appropriately, and for gifts try to find a vendor with a good return or exchange policy as well.
