Wine Picnic Baskets A Lovely Basket For A Romantic Outing
Wine picnic baskets like the ones that are displayed in grocery or department stores may sell for $40 to $200. These attractive baskets may be lined with gingham fabric. Often they have a small table cloth, napkins, wine glasses and a corkscrew. A variety of accessories may be included. There are built in areas for other necessary tools for a delightful picnic such as cheese cutters, and a pouch to store chilled wine. For a romantic outing, these lovely baskets are perfect.
Picnic baskets are fun and romantic. In fact, an old-fashioned picnic basket with two liftable flaps has the ability to create quite a pleasant mood. But even though this attractive type of classic wicker basket can be nostalgic and roomy, it does tend to be heavy when fully packed. If you are hiking to the location of your picnic, you might find the variety that fits into a backpack more practical.
So what food do you put in wine picnic baskets? Traditionally fried chicken, potato salad, and fruit, but any food that's not too messy can go inside. Bring wine if you like, but don't forget a corkscrew, if one isn't included in the picnic basket. Cheese and bread (bring a bread knife!), are good choices, and fresh strawberries if available. A good gourmet chocolate is particularly romantic. You can pack your favorite sandwiches (pack the sliced tomatoes separately -otherwise the bread will get soggy). Or better yet, pack all the supplies, and make the sandwiches during the picnic.
Even if it happens to be cold outside, wine picnic baskets make a superb gift idea for a romantic date on or leading up to Valentine's Day. You can always arrange to rent a cabin with a fireplace; light up the fire and spread the picnic basket's contents on the floor to begin your feast in front of the fire. If it is not too cold where you live, you might still be able to have a picnic outside anyway...but be certain to wear warm clothing and to snuggle close for warmth!
Of course, it is never wise to just limit yourself to Valentine's Day for displays of romance and affection. One year myself and the children took my husband out for a Father's Day picnic at the Princeton Battlefield. The kids were able to play outside as much as they wanted, while my husband and I sliced cheese for each other. A bottle of wine was uncorked, and we had a bottle of fresh grape juice too, so that the kids could drink from wine glasses.
Finally, what else should you take on the picnic? Depends on who is going, of course! If the kids are with you, a ball, and a Frisbee are good choices. If alone, then something romantic (like a valentines gift, an engagement ring, or flowers) can be hidden inside. Either way, make it fun!
